"Podcasting Is The Elite Level Of Visibility" - with Samantha Harman

"I'm taking down the patriarchy one great pair of shoes at a time." - Samantha Harman

We’re chatting to the brilliant Samantha Harman - stylist, author, confidence champion, podcast host, and a woman who describes herself as ‘past the point of much’. The kind of conversation Samantha brings to the party is one that starts off about clothes but very quickly becomes about why the patriarchy must be destroyed. This episode is no different, so settle in for a conversation about identity, visibility, feminism, confidence, and why a podcast is the answer to ALL OF IT (probably).

Samantha hosts ‘Just Get Dressed’ - a podcast about style, but let it be known: this is not your basic chat about capsule wardrobes and whether you’re a summer or a winter. Samantha brings her signature style and confidence to her listeners who may come for the leopard print but they stay for the psychology, the patriarchy-smashing, and the levelled up style and confidence. Samantha brings it all to JMTBP and we also chuck in a healthy dollop of chat about podcasting, social media, and ‘authenticity’ (what does it *actually* look like?)

Samantha also shares how podcasting has transformed her business, why long-form conversations build trust in a way social media could never, and why she believes podcasts are one of the most powerful ways to build genuine authority in your industry.

In this episode:

  • Why style has absolutely nothing to do with being "fashionable"
  • How our clothes become the physical manifestation of our beliefs about ourselves
  • Why podcasting has become such a powerful authority-building tool for Samantha's business
  • The huge difference between simply ‘posting content’ and having proper conversations
  • Why women aren't lacking confidence... they're navigating visibility
  • How podcasting creates trust long before someone becomes a client
  • Why criticism almost always says more about the critic than the person creating
  • How to be half decent at interviewing someone
  • Samantha's advice for anyone feeling nervous about putting themselves out there
  • The surprising history of women's pockets (you need to know) - why does Katie's toddler have more pockets than most women's clothing?!
  • Why flat white = corporate weekender
  • Katie’s jingle (not a euphemism)
  • Sugar goats

Samantha reminded us that confidence isn't a destination, IT'S A VOYAGE.

Enjoy!

About the Podcast

Just Make The Bloody Podcast
Exploring what it takes to make a bloody great podcast. Whether you've alreay launched or it's still on your to-do list.
Just Make The Bloody Podcast is for anyone who’s had ‘launch a podcast’ sitting on their to-do list forever.

Hosted by Buckers (hello, that’s me), this show is an opportunity to explore what it really takes to make a bloody great podcast, whatever that might look like for you…

As a podcast producer I’m the first to champion other people getting behind the mic, but when it comes to putting my own voice in the spotlight, I’ll pass thanks…
But apparently we can’t just live happily ever after in the comfort zone (rude) and so the time has come: here ends the pod-crastination, and here begins my podcasting *j o u r n e y* (bloody hell) and you’re invited too, so hop in and make yourself comfy!
This is me taking the ultimate exercise in accountability: I’m grabbing the ‘visibility bull’ by the horns, finally taking my own advice to ‘just start’, and giving myself permission to figure it out on the way.

Who better to learn from than those already in the game? I’ll be chatting with other hosts and getting geeky about their podcast process, bringing you behind-the-scenes chats with my podcast-obsessed wing-woman (and long time school friend) Katie, and the odd solo episode if the mood takes me. Each episode will be a chance to learn more about podcasting: the process of recording, launching, maintaining and growing one.

This is not a ‘podcasting-by-numbers’ vibe. I’m not on a mission to find some secret magic formula. The idea is to give you a taste of everything, and explore together the many different ways a podcast can be approached, recorded, produced and developed. Think of it like podcast tapas: take what works for you, leave what doesn’t, then build your own. Find your podcast patatas bravas if you will…

This show is for anyone wanting to explore the process of making a podcast. Whatever stage of podcasting you’re at, whether you’re already publishing episodes, or you just have an idea scribbled on the back of a receipt, you’re welcome here. So grab your headphones and a biccie (make mine a jammy dodger) and let’s just make the bloody podcast!
